Singapore data centre opens
August 26, 2010
One of the biggest concerns organisations have about cloud computing is data security and where the actual data is stored. This is especially true of companies who manage large amounts of private customer data and want to know where the data is physically located.
As Qantas head of technology, David Hall, recently said in The Australian, “We hold a lot of data that is private…and should be regulated well, and when you don’t know where it’s going to be (stored), it’s hard to defend. Reputational damage is very costly and not worth the risk.”
This ‘need to know’ helped fuel the recent launch of Frontline’s data centre in Singapore. As John Howl, the CEO of Harbour MSP, says, “Singapore is the major hub in Asia for many multi-nationals and mid-tier enterprises. We’ve had significant demand from a number of our major Australia customers to provide services in Singapore and we very pleased to be able to make this happen.”
Just six months old, the data centre is ideally placed to service Australian companies with regional offices in Singapore as well as international clients requiring off-shore data recovery.
